The Montessori Method
During the early 1900s Maria Montessori
(1870-1952) developed a new teaching method for the children
of Rome. In schools known as Casa Dei Bambini (The Childrens
House) she successfully applied her teaching philosophy that
has since spread far and wide across the world, with increasing
popularity.
Her philosophy was to provide an environment
in which children were freely allowed to follow their own
developmental needs, using specially designed apparatus within
a carefully prepared environment. Thereby they could acquire
self-discipline, self-confidence, an ability to concentrate and a natural joy
for learning which comes from within.
At Martyrs Green Montessori we believe
her philosophy is as relevant today as ever, and in using
her methods we can help the children to grow individually
and intrinsically. Therefore when a child leaves us they are
educationally, emotionally, physically and spiritually ready
within themselves to move on to the challenges of big school.
