The Granary (2-3 year olds)

Here you are offered a full time place or may choose sessions from either 8.00am - 1.00pm or 1.00pm - 6.00 pm. The 2-3 year old class offers 8 places with 2 members of qualified staff.

This room is integrated with the 3-5 year olds and the children all have their lunch together in the main classroom. The children have the use of shared toilet facilities with their older friends.

The classroom provides a secure environment for the younger children working their way up the school with opportunities for them to explore the older areas if they wish to.

Language and Literacy
An indirect approach to reading is introduced using a phonic method which helps to encourage reading, writing and social skills.

Mathematics

A ‘number rich’ environment that covers all concepts of mathematics using inviting apparatus working from ‘symbols’ to ‘quantities’, leading to a combined understanding. This may progress to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Cultural

The children experience an introduction to science, history, geography and nature ranging from projects to hands on experience in the school garden or nature walks around the pond or neighbouring farm.

Physical

The environment allows the children continuous development both inside the classroom and outside in the garden. Gym and other Montessori apparatus allow for the fine tuning of both fine and gross motor skills indoors, as does the fantastic outdoor play area and other controlled activities.

The children also enjoy ‘art and craft’ and ‘music and movement’ on a daily basis. We cover all forms of art and craft using varying techniques allowing the children to express themselves and develop their creative skills.

Music and movement includes singing, dancing, poetry, drama and making their own music with instruments. This helps them to gain self-confidence and express themselves freely.
